The Path
Oil on paper
18″ x 24″
A ZEN monk once said to me “don’t chase your anger.” I was extremely angry with my brother who decided to go on a hardcore drug bender. I was absolutely furious. One Saturday morning I decided to put my emotions into a painting. I imagined anger as a difficult path through the swampy woods, with thorns bugs rocky uneven ground. You’re not going to get anywhere going down this path. You’re only going to hurt yourself. Can you see the path to the left behind the tree? But there’s another path another choice to the right. That path is clear and easy and there’s something up ahead some movement. When I was done with this painting there was paint on the ceiling.
